Dr. V. K. Dadhwal

Dr. Vinay Kumar Dadhwal, born April 9, 1957 did his graduation in Botany from Hansraj College, Delhi University and M.Sc & Ph.D in Plant Physiology from Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi in year 1978 & 1983 respectively. He joined the Space Applications Centre (ISRO), Ahmedabad in year 1983 and was Head, Crop Inventory & Modeling Division(1998-2004). He is an agricultural scientist & Fellow of National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS). Presently, he is holding the position of Dean, Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (nrsc) since July 2004. He is also Deputy Director (Capacity Building) nrsc and was Deputy Director, United Nations Centre for Space Science & Technology Education (CSSTEAP) (July 2005-December 2006) and Director-in-charge (September 2005-December 2006).

At Space Applications Centre (SAC), Dr. Dadhwal worked on Remote Sensing applications to crop forecasting at district to national scale, irrigation management, sensor parameters for agriculture applications. His research interests include land surface modeling and terrestrial carbon cycle and global change.

He is currently Project Director, National Carbon Project of ISRO Geosphere Biosphere project and on Science Panel of CTCZ of Department of Science & Technology (DST) and Terrestrial Carbon Organisation (TCO) of FAO, Rome. He has more than 100 peer reviewed journal publication and is recipient of many awards including Aeronautical Society of India. Dr. Dadhwal received ISRO-ASI award for Space Applications (2005) by Astronautical Society of India, ISRO Merit Certificate (2006) for Contributions to application of remote sensing to crop forecasting, Hari Om Ashram Prerit Dr. Vikram Sarabhai Research Award, 1999 for Space Application; Indian National Remote Sensing Award, 1999 of Indian Society of Remote Sensing Dehradun, Young Scientist Medal, 1989 of Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi and Young Scientist Award, 1987 of Indian Science Congress Association, Calcutta.
